I agree with Noto pretty much across the board here. This was a helluvan action film with lots of style. The standouts for me were:
INSTANTLY ICONIC and one of the greatest sequences in an action film ever. Totally tense, pitch-perfect and masterfully done. Hitchcock couldn't have done suspense better.
And:
Dear god, was I ever in love with her. Those pouty lips are god. _________________ Blog - Alfred Hitchcock - Music - Podcast - Comics - Twitter |

Excellent review Noto.
I really like this movie and Jean Reno has got to be one of the most underrated actors ever. _________________ Dvds |

Awesome slow burn, looking up from under the eyelids shot:
Worthy of Kubrick.
Couple that with a kick ass line, delivered with a delicious sneer:
FUCKING AWESOME.
I loved Mission: Impossible. I saw it three times in the theatre during a summer that was crammed with dozens of other must see blockbusters. It's disappointing that the sequels haven't lived up to the original. _________________ Cru knows. - Shoe

Well that's because the original one had the brillant Brian DePalma running the show. _________________ Dvds |

Breaking up the team dynamic and making it all about Cruise didn't help much either. _________________

Well to my knowledge John Woo has never made a team or group oriented film he usually has a central hero. To JJ's credit I thought the third film got back to the team element a little but like Alias it still centered around you lone hero. _________________ Dvds |

I'm glad to see that there is much love for the original M:I film.
I still have yet to see the 3rd, which is sad, because I have simply been too busy instead of lack of interest. _________________ These movies just seem too 'Noto' for me.

I had a full-on 15-year old chubby seeing that in the theatre! _________________ These movies just seem too 'Noto' for me.

One of my very favorite De Palma setpieces. The crazy dutch angles, Danny Elfman's brilliantly nauseating music cue as Cruise realizes he's being set up, the final, orgasmic, slo-mo release as the fishtanks detonate and Cruise runs to safety...whenever I watchthis movie, that scene is the one I look forward to the most (even moreso than the CIA break-in). Just a shame that this "special edition" DVD reissue was such a wash. Where's the Laurent Bouzerau documentary with freshly-conducted interviews (fuck, even Obsession earned one of those)? Where's that deleted Cruise/Beart love scene that you can see snippets of in the trailer? Everything on the disc is either a piece of decade-old EPK fluff or shameless Cruise ego-stroking. For shame. _________________ Shut up and keep yer hands to yerself or I'll cut yer little pecker off.

Which means precisely dick to me, as I'll probably never own a set capable of displaying anamorphic for years, if ever. This film deserved some "real" extras. _________________ Shut up and keep yer hands to yerself or I'll cut yer little pecker off.

Anamorphic is the ONLY important extra on a widescreen DVD. _________________ These movies just seem too 'Noto' for me.

Fuck that. I'm an extras whore, by all means - a terrible extras whore, really - but I'll take a bare bones disc done right than one with extra features any day. _________________ Blog - Alfred Hitchcock - Music - Podcast - Comics - Twitter |
