Oh damn. I can't deal with dolls like that. Good review though man. It definately made me interested in the movie.

Great review of a great movie. I was thinking about using this for my 24 hour movie fest this year, but as I already have a 2hr movie, I probably won't (the optimal time for a fest movie is 90 minutes, so we can schedule each 2 hours with a break). I still haven't had time to check out the extras, however, but it sounds like I ought to get on that.

I think I will actually. Even though it has a creepy ass doll, I don't think I can pass up Hopkins being a magician.

I used to be afraid of the newspaper ad for this movie. That is one creepy doll!!!
I keep meaning to buy this movie. I've never seen it all the way through so that kind of explains my reluctance to blind buy this. But I intend to check it out in the near future.

Honestly, I was quite disappointed by Magic, even if I appreciated it for the most part. I just felt that, with a couple of exceptions, it really lacked the tension that it needed. In many ways it's like Kubrick's The Shining; it's a cerebral exercise in horror from someone who has no familiarity with the genre. I enjoyed this story much more when it was played for laughs in Tales from the Crypt.
Nice review, however. I really enjoyed reading it even if I disagree with most of your points.
