Nice review, Cary. Your fanboy gushing won me over.
Shoe, you're going to love it. If you like Hellboy at all you'll dig this. They got the creep factor right, they got the humor right and they got the big battles with giant fucking monsters right. Homerun in my book.

I ordered this last week. I can't WAIT to see it. I thought the Hellboy film was vastly underrated, and of course, the comic was genius.
Shoe, is Hellboy completely available in trade form? _________________ These movies just seem too 'Noto' for me.

Just about everything, yes, with only a few very minor exceptions. Pretty sure the first Hellboy trade is Seed Of Destruction, followed by Wake The Devil. Several more follow.
If you hit this Amazon link you'll see the first volume, and 2-5 listed under "Customers who bought..." _________________ Blog - Alfred Hitchcock - Music - Podcast - Comics - Twitter |

Noto - my introduction came with the trade The Chained Coffin and Other Stories. If you saw the movie and are semi-familiar with the characters, it's not a bad place to start (even though it's in the middle of the trade series) because it's all short stories and most don't really fall into the giant Hellboy arc. Each story is accompanied by Mignolas notes on where it came from and this book also includes "Heads" which you'll see in the Sword of Storms movie. It will give you an instant appreciation for what Mignola is doing with this character.
What do you think Shoe? _________________ "Agreed" - Pender |

I think that's solid advice. Nice, broad look at what Mignola does with teh character without getting thrust right into some huge story.

I thought the character design for the humans was especially grody, to the point of distracting my enjoyment from the movie. But once Hellboy starts beating the shit out of everything in sight, woo!
I can't wait for my copy of The Amazing Screw-On Head that DIMP got for me. _________________ "Kind of like how all those big manufacturers threw money at Steven Spielberg to have their products prominently featured in Minority Report, never realizing the blackly satirical way Spielberg was going to use them." - Monterey Jack. |

Just watched this tonight, it was pretty damn excellent. Enjoyed the hell out of it, really excited for the others coming out.
Did anyone watch the extras? I'm really weirded out by my appearance in the crowd during the SDCC panel.

That's cool. Now I know exactly who I've been stalking for the last year. I just picked someone at random.
