Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announces the Special Edition DVD and Blu-ray™ High-Def release of the dramatic science fiction thriller Gattaca on March 11, 2008. Set in a near-future society, Gattaca is a cautionary tale about the dark side of genetic engineering, starring Ethan Hawke (Training Day), Uma Thurman (Kill Bill: Vol. 1 & Vol. 2) and Jude Law (Closer) and featuring appearances by novelist and cult icon Gore Vidal, Academy Award® winners Alan Arkin (Little Miss Sunshine) and Ernest Borgnine (Marty), and three-time Emmy® winner Tony Shalhoub (Monk). Digitally remastered, Gattaca: Special Edition boasts all-new featurettes, including interviews with Ethan Hawke and Jude Law, deleted scenes, and more, for an SRP of $19.94 (DVD) and $28.95 (Blu-ray Disc™).

In a future society, where the focus of discrimination has shifted away from race, class and gender, and has turned to human DNA, Vincent Freeman (Ethan Hawke) is born with a congenital heart condition – less than this society’s idea of a valued individual. However, Vincent possesses an iron will, a trait that cannot be genetically determined, and his will hungers to be an astronaut. With the help of Jerome Eugene Morrow (Jude Law), a genetically superior, yet suicidal individual, Vincent is able to mask his true identity and make his way into the halls of Gattaca, the highly coveted aerospace corporation. Freeman is able to achieve certain successes, including a romantic attachment with colleague Irene Cassini (Uma Thurman). However, when his dream of going to Saturn seems within reach, a murder takes place at the institution and all employees become suspect. With an investigation underway, the pressure to hide his DNA intensifies. Only then, when his will is put to the extreme test, does he realize that perfection is not created, it’s earned.

Gattaca is written and directed by Andrew Niccol (Lord of War, The Terminal – writer), produced by Academy Award® nominated team Danny DeVito, Michael Shamberg and Stacy Sher (Erin Brockovich). It stars Ethan Hawke (Training Day, Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead), Uma Thurman (Kill Bill: Vol. 1 & Vol. 2), Jude Law (Closer, I Heart Huckabees), Gore Vidal (Myra Breckinnridge - novel writer), Alan Arkin (Little Miss Sunshine, Slums of Beverly Hills), Ernest Borgnine (Marty, Willard) and Tony Shalhoub (Monk, Men in Black) and was nominated for an Academy Award® for Best Art Direction and a Golden Globe® nomination for Best Original Score.

Gattaca has a run time of 106 minutes. All discs are rated PG-13 for brief violent images, language, and some sexuality.
