When Mike Carvalho said he wanted to do a couple of 5 Bands columns I thought it was a great idea. I decided to try to e-mail some of the artists on Mike’s lists to see if we could get them to answer two simple questions. What are you listening to now and what would be your desert island disc?
Loudon Wainwright III recently released Strange Weirdos: Music From and Inspired by the film Knocked Up. We highly recommend you check it out and also check out his website (www.lwiii.com).
: What artists do you find yourself listening to lately?
Loudon Wainwright III: The artists I’m listening to most this summer are Ry Cooder, Bill Monroe and Thelonius Monk.
: What’s the one album you couldn’t live without? You know, your desert island disc?
Loudon Wainwright III: My desert island disc would be the soundtrack of Juliet Of The Spirits by Nino Rota.
Todd Snider released the critically acclaimed The Devil You Know in 2006 and will soon follow that up with Live at Grimey’s. He also released a DVD that features videos for each song on The Devil You Know. Do yourself a favor and check him out also via his website (http://www.toddsnider.net).
: What artists do you find yourself listening to lately?
Todd Snider: Mostly, I’m listening to the album we’re working on now, which doesn’t have a name yet, but I also just bought the Traveling Wilburys three CD box set and I’ve been enjoying the Wilbury Twist.
: What’s the one album you couldn’t live without?
Todd Snider: My main desert island CD would be Exile on Main Street by The Stones.
