Blade Runner: The Final Cut Honored
December 13 , 2007

It was one of those quintessential Hollywood events. Big Screening. Big Star turnout and a spectacular party, perfectly themed and designed to fit the movie. The movie is a new version of Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic Blade Runner starring Harrison Ford which is celebrating its 25 anniversary with a definitive new edition from the director called Blade Runner: The Final Cut.

The star turnout included William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Malcolm McDowell, original Blade Runner cast members Sean Young, Joanna Cassidy, James Hong, William Sanderson, M. Emmet Walsh, producer Charles de Lauzirika, Isa Dick Hackett (BR author Philip Dick’s daughter). L.A. restaurateur Ben Ford (representing his dad), Frances Fisher and Ernest Borgnine, among others

They all attended the Blade Runner: The Final Cut high-definition screening, at the Shrine Auditorium, hosted by Warner Home Video and the Jules Verne Adventure Film Festival (JVAA) which gave the movie a Special Artistic Achievement Award. The evening was MC’d by McDowell and Stewart who also presented Shatner with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The JVAA, which takes its name from the futurist and father of modern science-fiction, is dedicated to making a better world and abetter planet. So it was a “green” carpet ceremony that preceded the start of the festivities.

The party followed nearby on the second floor of the historic Bradbury building where Blade Runner was shot. Scott chose the building which while one of L.A.’s oldest strongly suggested the future. Dan Kough’s Paradigm Shift’s party blueprint, incredibly evocative of Lawrence Paull’s original production designs, utilized props, neon signs, beam lighting, rain, fog and other elements. Portraits of the actors lined the windows of offices that faced the balcony. The Asian themed food (from Someone’s in the Kitchen) featured everything from Asian bruschetta and miso soup in demitasse cups to coconut and orange peel chicken to ginger crème brulee, green tea ice cream and chocolate fortune cookies. The drink highlight for the evening was black and red martinis.

After a successful theatrical run, Blade Runner: The Final Cut debuts December 18 from Warner Home Video in three stunning DVD editions, including an Ultimate Collectors Edition. The film is spectacularly restored from original elements and scanned at 4K resolution and contains tons of new bonus features.
